Building a Lanhtropy linen capsule wardrobe is easier than assembling one across five different brands, because the Miami label does something unusual: it keeps reissuing the same well-drafted blocks in new prints. Learn six silhouettes and you can dress from this one collection for most of the year.
This guide covers which pieces form the spine of a linen capsule, how to size each one, how to pair the house prints without looking costumed, and how to keep organic linen looking elegant rather than slept-in. Everything below comes from what the brand publishes about its own garments.
Step 1: understand the two fit families
Before anything else, internalise the sizing split, because it governs every outfit you will build.
- Relaxed and oversized: the Bubble Linen Shirt, the Bubble Linen Dress and the Wish Upon a Star Shirt all run big, and Lanhtropy recommends sizing down for the best fit. The Athina shirt is also cut to a relaxed fit.
- Fitted: the Olivia halter top is a fitted silhouette that runs small, with the brand advising you size up if you fall between sizes.
A capsule needs both. If everything is relaxed you lose shape entirely; if everything is fitted you lose the ease that makes linen worth wearing in heat. The Bubble-plus-Culotte combination is the clearest expression of that balance — volume up top, structure at the waist.
Step 2: pick two bottoms and two shirts
Bottoms decide the character of the capsule, so choose one structured and one fluid.
The structured option is the Culotte Linen Pants or the Frida Linen Shorts. Both are high-waisted with a structured waistband for added support and shape, side pockets and a front zipper fastening with a hook, in 100% organic linen. Lanhtropy is explicit that they suit people who like a snug fit at the waist and have a defined waistline.
The fluid option is the Vincent Linen Pants: wide-leg, with a hidden zipper and hook closure for a clean front and an inner elastic waistband for all-day comfort, cut from 100% natural linen that is pre-washed and softened so it drapes. Black and Natural are the two that go with everything; the Simone print version is the one to buy if you want the trouser to be the outfit.
And two shirts that do different jobs
The Bubble Linen Shirt is the anchor — mao neckline, front button closure, elbow-length balloon sleeves, shell buttons, premium organic linen, pre-washed and softened. Lanhtropy's own suggestion is to pair it with the Culotte Pants, the Frida Shorts or your favourite jeans, which is exactly the rotation a capsule needs.
The Athina Linen Shirt, style PL-1434, is the second. Its mao V-neck, puffed short sleeves, hidden front placket and curved hemline that sits longer at the back make it the easiest piece to wear untucked over wide-leg trousers. It is also the only shirt here cleared for a high temperature iron, which is useful when you want one genuinely crisp option in the drawer.
For a sleeveless layer worn under a shirt or on its own, the Folk Linen Top in Off White and the Mei Linen Top in Petunia Pink are the plainest pieces in the range, and the ones that carry a printed bottom without competing with it.
Step 3: choose one dress, not three
Dresses are where linen capsules go wrong, because every print looks essential in isolation. Pick one length and commit.
Choose the Willow if you want midi. The flutter detail at the shoulders falls like a short sleeve, the mandarin collar keeps it from reading purely beachy, and the relaxed fit gathers at the hem. It is finished with mother-of-pearl buttons and comes in the Francesca and Simone prints.
Choose the Carmela if you want mini: voluminous puff sleeves, a playful ruffled hem, mandarin collar and mother-of-pearl buttons, described by the brand as effortless romance for day or night, in the Simone and Marly prints.
The Bubble Linen Dress is the third path — mao neck, balloon sleeves, front button closure and an A-line shape — and like its shirt counterpart it runs big, so size down.
Step 4: pair the prints properly
Lanhtropy names its prints rather than numbering them, and pieces from the same print are drafted to be worn together. Marly runs across the Bubble Shirt, the Culotte Pants, the Frida Shorts, the Carmela Dress and the Bubble Dress. Simone covers the Willow, the Carmela and the Vincent pants. Francesca appears on the Willow, and Blue Poppy on the Athina shirt.
Two approaches work. Either wear a print head to toe from a single family — the Bubble Shirt with the Frida Shorts in Marly, for instance — or set one print piece against a solid in Natural, Off White or Black. What does not work is mixing two different named prints in one outfit, because the scales were never designed to sit together.
Buy print pieces in the same order, too. Collections are tagged by season (SS 26, CAOS SS26, MAGMA SS26), so a print you like now may not survive to the next drop. Our minimalist capsule wardrobe guide covers the wider discipline of deciding how much pattern a closet can hold.
Step 5: care, so the capsule survives
Linen rewards low-effort washing and punishes hot, aggressive treatment. The house instruction across most pieces is straightforward: machine wash cold, then hang dry or lay flat. The Bubble Linen Shirt adds one prohibition — do not dry clean. The Athina permits a high temperature iron.
The exception is the Wish Upon a Star Shirt with its heart-shaped foil appliques, which needs hand washing in cold water, no iron directly over the appliques, and a cotton cloth in between if you press it. Keep that one out of the weekly rotation and treat it as occasion wear.
Two habits are worth adopting whatever you buy. Hang linen while it is still slightly damp and most creases drop out without any ironing at all. And do not overload the machine — linen creases hardest where it is compressed, so a half-full drum genuinely produces a better result than a full one.
A sample seven-piece Lanhtropy capsule
- Vincent Linen Pants in Black — the fluid bottom that goes anywhere.
- Culotte Linen Pants in Marly print — the structured bottom with a defined waist.
- Frida Linen Shorts in Marly print — the warm-weather substitute for the Culotte.
- Bubble Linen Shirt in Petunia Pink — sized down, worn with all three bottoms.
- Athina Linen Shirt in Blue Poppy print — untucked over the wide-leg.
- Olivia Top in Natural — sized up, the fitted counterweight for evenings.
- Willow Linen Dress in Francesca print — the one-and-done option.
Seven pieces, one fabric family, and enough combinations to cover a fortnight of warm weather without repeating an outfit. You can browse the Lanhtropy collection and check which prints are currently stocked before committing to a family.
Packing this capsule for travel
Linen is genuinely the best travel fibre once you stop fighting it. Roll rather than fold, put the structured waistbands at the bottom of the case where compression matters least, and hang everything the moment you arrive. Our warm-weather linen dress guide goes deeper on crease management, and if the trip involves a pool, the resort swimwear capsule guide is the natural companion.
Common questions
How many linen pieces do I actually need?
Seven is comfortable for a two-week warm-weather rotation: two bottoms, two shirts, one fitted top, one dress and one extra bottom for heat. Fewer works if you are happy repeating outfits; more mainly adds prints rather than function.
Should I size up or down at Lanhtropy?
Down for the Bubble shirt, Bubble dress and Wish Upon a Star shirt, which the brand states run big. Up for the Olivia halter top, which is a fitted silhouette that runs small. Everything else follows your usual size.
Will pre-washed linen still shrink?
The pieces are described as pre-washed and softened, which is the step that removes most of the drama from a first wash. Sticking to cold water and hang or flat drying, exactly as the care labels specify, is what preserves the fit you paid for.
